Privacy Policy

1. Introduction & Overview

UploadMyWalk respects your privacy. We believe your walking routes, physical coordinates, and outdoor memories belong to you. We do not sell your personal data, location trails, health data, or uploaded photos, and we do not use them for advertising.

2. Information We Collect

• Account Details: Your email address and password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), or the name and email address shared with us when you choose Sign in with Apple or Sign in with Google. You may also set a display name.
• Walk Files You Upload: Latitude, longitude, elevation, timestamps, distance, and heart-rate data contained in the GPX, FIT, or KML files you import.
• Apple Health Data (iOS app, only with your permission): Your walking workouts, their GPS routes, walking distance, and heart rate. See section 3.
• Photos: Photographs you choose to attach to your walks, including the date and GPS location embedded in each photo, which we use to place it on your route.
• Location (iOS app, only when you ask): If you tap the button to detect your home location, your device's current position is used once to look up your town. We do not track your location in the background.
• Notes, Ratings & Settings: Walk names, notes, ratings, your home town, units, walking goal, and other preferences, which are saved to your account so they appear on all your devices.
• Purchases: Your plan type and transaction references. We never see or store your payment card details.
• Website Usage: Basic analytics about visits to uploadmywalk.com. See section 6.
• Error Reports: If something goes wrong while you're signed in (for example an import, sync or video export fails), a short technical report is saved with your account: the error message, the app version, and whether you were using the iOS app or the website. Reports never include your routes, locations, walk names, photos or health data, are used only to find and fix problems, and are deleted after 90 days.

3. Apple Health (HealthKit) Data

With your permission, the iOS app reads your walking workouts, workout routes, walking distance, and heart rate from Apple Health so they can be added to your walking journal. The app never writes to or changes your Apple Health data.

• Health data is used only to show your walks, routes, statistics, and heart-rate charts to you.
• We do not use health data for advertising or marketing, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers, advertisers, or any third party for those purposes.
• Imported walks, including their routes and heart rate, are stored in your UploadMyWalk account so you can access them on your other devices. They are deleted when you delete the walk or your account.
• You can withdraw access at any time in the iPhone Settings app under Health → Data Access & Devices.

4. Shared Walks

Walks are private by default. If you choose to share a walk, anyone with its link can see that walk's route on the map (including where it starts and finishes), its statistics, weather, name, notes, and rating, plus its photos if you leave photo sharing on. You can make a shared walk private again at any time, which disables the link.

5. Third-Party Service Processors

We use the following providers to run UploadMyWalk. Each receives only the data needed for its role.

• Supabase: Our database, authentication, and file storage provider. Stores your account, walks, settings, and photos.
• Vercel: Hosts the uploadmywalk.com website and its server functions, and provides our cookie-free website analytics (see section 6).
• Mapbox: Map rendering, 3D terrain, and place search. Route coordinates are processed on your device to draw your walks; when you search for your home town, the search text (or detected position) is sent to Mapbox to find the place.
• Open-Meteo: Walk start locations and times are sent to Open-Meteo to retrieve historical weather for your walks.
• Paddle.com: Our Merchant of Record for purchases on the website. Payment details are entered directly into Paddle’s secure checkout; UploadMyWalk never sees or stores your card numbers.
• Apple: Sign in with Apple, App Store in-app purchases, and Apple Health on your device.
• RevenueCat: Verifies and manages App Store purchases. Receives your UploadMyWalk account ID and your App Store purchase history for this app.
• Google: Sign in with Google, if you choose to use it.
• Discord: When you create an account, your email address and sign-up time are posted to a private Discord channel that only the UploadMyWalk team can see, so we're notified of new sign-ups. No routes, location, health data or photos are sent. Contact us if you'd like this notification removed.

6. Analytics & Cookies

Our website uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It does not use cookies and does not identify you: visits are counted using an anonymous value that resets every day, and only aggregated statistics (such as page views, referring sites, country, and device type) are kept. The iOS app does not include website analytics.

We also store information in your browser or device that the app needs to work, such as keeping you signed in and caching your walks for faster loading. This storage is not used for tracking.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit between your device and our providers. Access to your walks is restricted to your account. If you enable Face ID, it is handled entirely by your device; UploadMyWalk never receives your biometric data.

8. Data Retention & Permanent Deletion (GDPR)

You retain complete control over your data. You may delete individual walks or choose Delete All Walks in Settings at any time, which permanently removes those walks and their photos from our database and storage.

Choosing Delete Account in Settings permanently deletes your account together with all of your walks, photos, notes, settings, and purchase records held by UploadMyWalk. Paddle and Apple keep their own transaction records where they are legally required to.

9. Data Portability

You can download your complete walking journal at any time in GPX, GeoJSON, CSV, or lossless JSON / ZIP backup formats.
